Colours of life - common story written by children

Colour is a very noticeable attribute of the world around us. Colour is a way children observe and categorize what they see. These very recognizable characteristics encourage children to define and organize the diverse world around them. These first teachings in preschool and kindergarten are basics that every child needs to know before she learns the other basics of reading, writing and math. Understanding colour is a tool for learning many skills in all curriculum areas, from math and science to language and reading. Colour is one of the first ways preschoolers make distinctions among things they see. They also begin to distinguish shades, hues and tints.
The meaning of colour is also symbolic. Teachers introduce the children to colours around them. They will see the seasonal colours, colours in the environment, colours in food, colours of the sea, sky and water. Colour activities will be integrated into the curriculum.


Children will acquire observation skills.
They will learn to appreciate the environment.
They will also learn to protect natural resources.
The children will be creative and discover the link between shape, form and colour.
Healthy eating issues will be covered.
Pedagogical issues will be exchanged
Children will become aware of different European cultures.

Work Process

The co-ordination of plan of work and acceptance by all partners.
Integration of plans into curriculum of each kindergarten and school.
Discussing of lesson plans.
Presentation of children’s work which will be emailed to each partner
Children’s work will be published on internet page.

Planned activities (programme)

The project will focus on
1. Colours in the environment (sea , sky, air, nature, seasonal changes)
2. Colours in food
3. Mixing of colours
4. Children's favourite colour

1) Every partner will work on the topic colours and look for these colours in their local environment and present a presentation or videoclip with their results.
2) Each partner will work on the topic healthy food and find colours in their local food.
3) Each partner will produce work which shows the children mixing colours and
producing another colour from this mixture.
4) Individual children’s favourite colours will be exhibited through videopodcasting and digital photography.
5) ‘Fun colour days’ will be organized. Video conferences will be held on these day.
6) Video clips of children singing songs with the topic colours will be exchanged.

Students’ productions

Mind maps
Reports and video clips of children’s excursions to museums.
During activities children will make drawings, crafts and take digital photos.
The children will actively participate in preparation of presentation of activities they want to share with their new friends.


PowerPoint, email, wiki, digital camera, video editing, scanner, stop motion animation, video conferencing.
